ercol studio couch

A few years back we happened upon a beat-up Ercol Studio Couch in the wilds of Canada … specifically, in an antique-and-junk filled barn in northern Ontario.  When I say we, I mean my mother-in-law Sharon and me.  The frame of the couch was in rough shape, with its original finish coming off in our hands, so we ended up stripping it down for a more nordic look to suit the family lake cottage where it would live.  I’m happy to report the couch is complete.   And I finally have photos to show it off a bit.

ginkgo glen revisited

Given the sopping wet and gloomy January we’re having here in San Jose, I thought I’d share these pictures today.  Just a block away from our tract of Fairglen is another small tract of older Eichlers.  Ginkgo trees line the streets of Ginkgo Glen.  They turn golden in late November and December, which makes for a nice visit.

eichler inspiration in the desert

On our recent spring trip to Palm Springs, we decided to visit Kud Properties‘ Desert Eichlers.  In case you hadn’t heard of them, these are entirely new homes based on Eichler floor plans, not exact replicas, but Eichlers re-imagined for today in the context of the California desert.  We toured the two newest models:  a flat-roof, atrium model, and this spectacular double A-frame.  There are plenty of images of these homes, so I’ll share just a few highlights here… highlights that I might, you know, borrow for a future project.
